ThoughtShapers has a thought-provoking article on the results of a class action click fraud suit against Yahoo! and how it benefits the search engines far more than the advertisers who lost money.

Ironically, Yahoo! stands to benefit from being sued by its advertisers based on the legal action’s settlement terms… terms that absolve the Web advertising giant of liability for fraudulent, and more importantly “unwanted”, clicks sent to advertisers over the last 8 years. In return, advertisers’ get the opportunity to ask for credits (to buy more advertising) and these credits may ultimately be denied by the company.

If you’re concerned about click fraud and other unsavory practices in SEO and PPC, you might be interested to know that Apogee Search Engine Marketing has decided to “endorse and support” SEMPO, the Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization. SEMPO works to establish standards that will hopefully help to eliminate those bad SEO practices that are rendering PPC less useful to advertisers. Apogee’s focus is on bringing customers to advertisers, not just clicks.

The lack of standardization so far has allowed click fraud to progress to the point of lawsuits against Yahoo! and Google. It will be interesting to see how groups like SEMPO and companies like Apogee work to correct this.

Tips for Boosting Affiliate Conversions and Traffic to your Blog - with links to a couple of other good articles

InsureMe Blog has several articles about Google’s recent quality score changes, and what they might mean to affiliates. And Jangro writes a take on the same issue. People are not thrilled, it seems.

And if the name “Affiliate Marketing” doesn’t sound so honest and pure these days, ReveNews suggests a name change and re-brand. Interesting food for thought.

Take Work Less, Accomplish More. The general American belief is that you should be paid by the hour: even if you’re salaried, you probably think of yourself more as putting in X hours rather than accomplishing X things on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. It’s how we’re trained. But it’s an unproductive attitude.

If he went slow it would be easier and he’d make more money. If he worked quickly, it would be harder and he’d make less.

It effectively argues the case that anyone accomplishes more by setting a task goal rather than a time goal. This may not help you in your current job, but what about when you’re working for yourself, or employing others? What a simple, revolutionary way to get an edge on the competition?

While you’re at the site, don’t forget to submit your email for a chance to win their free iPod Shuffle contest, and to receive email updates of future posts. Other prizes include a $5 Amazon gift certificate, a $25 Apple Music Store gift certificate. You only have to stay subscribed to email updates long enough to win (though, getting an occasional email update from a good site doesn’t sound too objectionable).

Make your taskbar transparent

There’s stuff to learn about search engine optimization and online marketing from SEO’Brien, the blog written by Paul O’Brien who used to work for Yahoo. It covers marketing techniques, such as social bookmarking, and new ways to make them work for you. For SEO, it talks about the importance of long tail search terms and explains mysteries like page rank in their simplest terms. He also reviews tools that can help you grow an online business, market your products, or get better results for your site in the search engines - such as datafeed tools and how to build an XML sitemap.

He also recommends other sites and articles, so you’ll find plenty to chew on.
