WP e-Commerce, WordPress Plugin

The lite version of this plugin allows you to sell products via PayPal only. Whilst it’s called ‘lite’ it’s not that simple as such. You can have your products in categories, there’s a shopping basket and it uses the PayPal IPN for instant notification. I’ve not gone through the whole process but I would assume that if you’re selling a digital product it will also then provide a download link to the buyer to download the product, as I’ve had the option to set how many times the product can be downloaded by the buyer.

This sounds like a really interesting method for selling stuff from your website. Sarah gives several interesting details (click over) and then the developer comes along in the comments to say they’re adding even more awesome stuff.

Blog Commenting Tips Are Utterly Ridiculous

Surely everyone who knows that is intelligent enough to realize that if they leave more attention grabbing comments they will receive more traffic and that by leaving a stupid comment they could damage their reputation.

No one needs help with that.

I’e seen 2 posts recently on popular blogs that give out tips for “how you should (or should not) comment” and I must say the reading these posts makes me think the authors are stuck in their own crazy little world.

While it’s tempting to position yourself as an expert when you don’t in fact know anything, just don’t. There are newbie tips that really aren’t obvious to newbies, and then there are tips that anyone can figure out for themselves.

Free ebook about monetizing blogs

BloggingFingers is offering a free ebook on blog monetization strategies that’s actually worth recommending. BloggingFingers is offering a free ebook on blog monetization strategies that’s actually worth recommending. That link is to a post where you enter a contest by downloading the book, and yes, I’m getting some entries for writing this, but I rarely recommend - or even finish - free ebooks, and this one actually got my attention.

He talks about flagship blogs and niche blogs, and explains so clearly what he means by each term that you’ll have no problem seeing where each of your blogs fit. He also talks about niche blogs you’re hoping to grow into flagship blogs. Honestly, this part alone was a valuable refresher on basics for me: I sometimes see a niche blog doing well and think, “Oh, I could make this into a big blog and do even better” and end up screwing up what was working. Ahem. ;)

Anyhow, after that he goes on to talk about precisely how to monetize each type of blog, and why this works for this blog and that works for that one. It’s an easy read, well worth the time.

Top 9 Reasons DoFollow Can Hurt Your Blog

At first, this may seem like a great idea and a way to get more comments on your blog as well as get more community involvement, but it also has some very damaging flaws. Here are my nine reasons why joining the dofollow movement can hurt your blog.

Now, I’ve got dofollow on several blogs in several niches. I don’t receive anymore spam than I did before. I don’t get people linking out to bad neighborhoods. In short, I haven’t had any of the 9 problems the post lists.

Any thoughts?
