Why the big boys say much, signifying nothing

This complaint about Shoemaker being a hypocrite is interesting regardless of your take on it, but this particular quote I vound via Stu really grabbed me: “Let me define the “Make Money Online” niche for you. It’s largely a bunch of guys talking about how wealthy they are, leading inexperienced newbies on, pretending like someday they’ll reveal their “big money” secrets, and you’ll be wealthy too. In reality, they just use their blogs as newbie traffic channelers, selling it off to the highest bidder. The newbies take forever to realize that they ARE the “big money” secret the author has.” Really speaks to what Empress was saying the other day about how (most of) the big guys never really say anything of substance.

So don’t take so much time searching for a perfect niche that you never get started. There’s always time later to niche down as you find a subset of information or products that your visitors seem to want.

Think of offline businesses. You can start out like Amazon, just selling books, and wind up like Amazon, selling everything but body parts. Or you can start out selling hand-crafted everything, and then find all you have to do is sell a particular kind of rug that’s all the rage. And then the trends can reverse again, down the road. Being flexible is key to survival.

But getting started is key to having something that needs to survive.

LifeHacker’s found an easy way to do it: pay your estimated taxes online.Works for federal taxes and California state taxes. Most likely, other state tax boards allow this too, or [...]

In addition to all that, I’ve heard that I may need to pay estimated taxes on a quarterly basis. I’m still looking into that.
