Exact domain name matches losing steam with Google
Aaron Wall of SEOBook reports that exact domain name matches are going to lose ranking power in Google. Right now, a domain called “reallygoodcattoysmadefromclay.com” will rank very high for the search term “really good cat toys made from clay”, but not for much longer.
I assume other factors will be taken into account, so that your clay cat toy domain can remain at the top if there are other indications it’s a good site for people who want clay cat toys. I’d guess the goal of the change is to pull the rug out from under those spam sites that rely on the exact domain name match to bring them traffic.
This could affect how domainers do business, but I don’t see it making a huge difference. Unless they decide to make exact matches a penalty. That wouldn’t make any sense, though, would it?
