Happy staff will contribute to the overall success of your business. It’s important to work out the best ways to inspire and motivate your employees. If you’ve noticed motivation is lacking, or you feel your team deserve some fresh rewards, here are some tips that will lift the mood in the office and continue to bring out the best in your employees.
Work on Improving the Work Environment
Creating a creative and pleasant atmosphere is vital. Your workers spend a large majority of their lives in the office so it needs to be as appealing as possible. There are many ways to improve the work environment, such as:
The office needs to be spacious, cramped office spaces make people feel uncomfortable and causes stress. If you don’t have enough room you may benefit from moving offices or consider offering some of your employees the chance to work some of the time from their own homes.
Use lighting to create a good atmosphere. Overhead fluorescent lights are never a good idea. Instead provide everyone with some task lighting and add wall lights to the main room along with maximising the natural light in the space.
Set up an area for your workers to relax during breaks. Regular breaks allow workers to re-energise and help to inspire creative thinking. Add comfortable seating and some fun activities such as a table tennis table and a white board for creative thoughts and sharing ideas.
Hold an Annual Party
It’s always a good idea to allow people the chance to let their hair down, it helps to cement relationships outside of the working environment. An annual event is a great way of allowing people to have a great night at the cost of the company and reward them for all their hard work. Hire a venue, organise some corporate entertainment and treat everyone. You can always use this event as a way of marketing the success of the business too. You’ll need a budget for the event, which will be spent on the corporate entertainment, food and drink and the cost of the venue hire.
Organise Regular Meetings
Get the whole team together on a regular basis. Meetings don’t have to be boring or stressful. These meetings should be used as a chance to get all the various departments working together and collaborating together. Spend time in the meeting listening to the ideas of all the employees and consider how they could be implemented. Employees feel motivated if they know they are being listened to. Finally, remember to mention any positive outcomes and notify the people that were involved in the most recent success. This news should also be shared though the corporate newsletter.
Pick out unique rewards and bonuses that you can give out to the top employees of the month. It’s important to remember that not all employees are motivated by the same things, so pick the rewards each month based on the winner. Some ideas to consider include the use of the best parking space for one month, some time off, a financial bonus or free lunches.
